According to the latest figures released by the Iranian Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, the country's three major automakers – Iran Khodro (IKCO), SAIPA, and Pars Khodro – witnessed a significant decline in their production output during the first quarter of the current Iranian year (March 21 to June 21). The combined production of these automakers stood at 192,725 passenger vehicles, marking a decrease of 39,290 units or approximately 17% compared to the same period last year. This slowdown in production can be attributed to various factors, including supply chain disruptions, shortage of raw materials, and the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the automotive industry. The decline in output is particularly concerning as the Iranian automotive sector plays a crucial role in the country's economy, contributing significantly to employment and industrial growth.
